CLOUDMORROW

About

Why Cloudmorrow exists

Cloudmorrow separates durable, user-controlled domain data from a disposable and replaceable application layer. It is free software, started and looked after by BramLabs in Vordingborg, Denmark, and open to anyone who wants to help. This page is the story of why we built it.

The story

Software is changing forever

For as long as most of us have worked, software was slow and expensive to make. A team spent a year on a product, and then everyone used that product for a decade. The software was the valuable, lasting thing, and it was natural that the data lived inside it, in the vendor's shape, in the vendor's cloud, on the vendor's terms.

AI has ended that. A program that took a team a year now takes an afternoon. Software is becoming something you describe, generate, try, change and throw away, and it will keep changing at a pace nothing before it ever did. We are in a new paradigm, and in it the software is the cheap, moving part.

That turns the old arrangement on its head. When the software around your data is rewritten every month, your data cannot be defined by it and cannot be owned by whoever made it. The big software vendors who hold our notes, our files, our customers and our calendars today are holding the one thing that lasts, in formats that only their products understand, and we rent access to it. In the old world that was a trade-off. In the new one it is a trap.

And it is not only AI that pushed us. The world has become less certain. Services shut down, terms change overnight, prices move, companies are bought and sold, and where your data is stored, and under which laws, has become a real question for ordinary people and ordinary companies, not just for governments. You cannot plan for a decade on the promise that a vendor, or the country it answers to, will stay the same.

So we think two things are now critical. Private people and companies must own their own data, on machines they control, in shapes they can read without anybody's permission. And that data must be governed right: who may see it, which app may change it, which AI agent may reach it, with one place to look and a switch to cut any of them off. And when it has to be answered for, as a company's books do, it must be possible to freeze it as it stood and have an outside party sign that very state, in a way the company's own server cannot forge.

That is why we created Cloudmorrow. It holds your data, encrypted, on hardware you choose, in standard shapes that every quill agrees on. It puts every person, app and agent behind one gate that you control. And it treats the software on top as what it has become: quick to build, easy to replace and never the owner of what it touches. The data outlasts the software. That is the whole idea.

The people

Made by BramLabs

BramLabs is a European product studio in Vordingborg, Denmark. It invents products and builds them with the newest agentic engineering practices, releases early, and watches what happens. Each product is its own thing with its own users, and Cloudmorrow is the free and open-source one. It comes out of a European view of data: that it belongs to the people and companies it is about, and that where it lives and who governs it matters.

Who is behind it

BramLabs does the design, the code, the Quill Catalog and the servers this site runs on. Every repository is public, and issues and pull requests are welcome.

Why it stays open

Your data should not depend on anybody staying around, us included. Cloudmorrow is free software under the GNU AGPL v3, and your cloud keeps running whatever happens to BramLabs.

What keeps it going

No advertising, no data to sell and nothing to buy. Donations pay for the time that goes into the code and the servers this site runs on.
