The idea

A small creature on its own cloud

Cloudmorrow is a cloud anyone can install on hardware they own: a person, a household, a school, a club, a company.

The cloud people use today is somebody else's computer, rented by the month, holding data in shapes only that company's apps can read. Cloudmorrow turns that around. Your data lives on your machine, in standard shapes every quill agrees on. Quills sit around it with access you can see and cut. Notes, tasks, a calendar, chat, files and secrets come in the box. Everything else is a quill from the Quill Catalog, or one you build by describing it to an AI agent.

The logo says it in one picture. The cloud is not up in the sky and far away. It is a soft, solid thing you can sit on, and the one sitting on it is small, curious and plainly at home. That is the feeling the brand has to give: this cloud is yours, and it is friendly.

The look comes from the app itself. The app draws its wordmark and every icon out of square dots on blue-black glass. The hedgehog is made of the same pixels, so the website, the store, the learning portal and the app all look like one product.

You own the data. Not the app, not us.

The mascot

Morrow, the hedgehog

His name is Morrow. Every part of the picture stands for something in the product. Use these meanings when you write about it, animate it or draw new poses.

    The spines

    A hedgehog carries its own protection. So does your cloud: everything you write is encrypted before it reaches the disk, and nobody else holds the key.

  2. B

    The glasses

    Curious and a bit of a nerd. It reads the manual so you don't have to. That makes it the guide in the learning portal, and a reminder that the code is open for anyone to read.

  3. C

    The cloud

    The platform. Big, blue and soft enough to sit on. It is always under the hedgehog and never above it: the cloud serves the person, not the other way round.

  4. D

    Sitting on top

    Small, at home, going nowhere. A hedgehog lives in your own garden and not in a data centre. It is happy where it is, and so is your data.

Curious

Wants to know how things work, and will show you. Never smug about it.

Home-loving

Content on its own patch. Stands for local, owned and private without ever mentioning fear.

Small but sturdy

Runs on a Raspberry Pi. Doesn't need a data centre to be capable.

Quiet

Appears where a friendly face helps: the hero, empty screens, lessons, errors. Not on every card.

Morrow, in every size

Transparent PNGs, square, from one master. Scale the master freely; use the size nearest to what you need for anything small. Below 32 pixels his whole body blurs, so the 16-pixel favicon is his head alone. The home-screen icons sit on Night, because a phone paints a transparent corner black.

Colour

The app's glass, the cloud's blue, the hedgehog's amber

The neutrals are the app's own, unchanged. The two colours are sampled from the logo and replace the app's cyan and violet.

Glass

The app's blue-black neutrals. They carry 90% of every page. Night is new: the ground behind the logo, for heroes.

Hedgehog

The person's colour. Lens amber fills the one action you take on a screen: Install, Get, Donate, Next lesson. As text it marks names and the thing that is yours.

Blue for the platform, amber for you. Blue can be anywhere there is something to follow. Amber fills one control per view, the one that moves you forward. Status colours are separate, and warn moves from yellow to orange so it can never be mistaken for amber.

Straight from the wordmark

The logo's wordmark is a squared, engineered sans in the DIN tradition. Barlow is that family on Google Fonts, free under the OFL. The semi-condensed cut sets the wordmark and headings, and the regular cut sets everything you read.

Barlow

Body. Paragraphs, lessons, forms and quill listings. 400 for reading and 600 for emphasis. The app keeps the system face for notes, where speed matters more than brand.

Burn a card, plug the Pi into the router, and open cloudmorrow.local on a phone. Name your cloud, choose a password, and it is yours.

Lose the key and there is no recovery, by design. Back it up with the data, somewhere that is not the server.

JetBrains Mono

Utility. Commands, paths, element names and versions: anything a reader might copy or type. The app already asks for it.

Pixels

Pixels for the marks, type for the words

This is the app's rule, and the brand keeps it. Anything that is a mark (the wordmark, icons, the hedgehog) is drawn in square dots. Anything you read is set in Barlow.

The dot

A dot fills 84% of its cell with softly rounded corners, exactly as core.js draws the wordmark. The gaps are what make it read as pixels rather than as a blocky font.

The app's tab icons, one dot thick. New icons for the website (store, learn, donate) are drawn on the same grid.

The hedgehog, 16 × 16

16px favicon

The hedgehog as dots, for the places that are made of dots: the terminal, one-colour marks. The favicon and the app icon are Morrow's picture now (see Morrow, in every size). For small sizes the hedgehog is drawn again, dot by dot, in ten colours from the logo: spines, round glasses, eyes, tongue and cloud. It is the app icon and the favicon, and it can be tinted in one colour to sit in the icon set.

Voice

Friendly, plain and exact

The README and the docs already have a voice: short sentences, real commands, and the truth about what isn't built yet. The mascot adds warmth. It does not add jokes.

Say what it does

Use the names people know: notes, a calendar, a backup. Keep the system's own words (tenant, manifest, grant) for the pages that need them.

Show the number

One command, three questions. 100 MB of memory. A concrete number beats an adjective every time.

Tell the truth

Say what encryption protects against and what it doesn't. Say which parts are built and which come next. Trust is the product.

Write for the household

A parent setting up a Pi should follow every sentence. Engineers get the depth in the manual, one link away.

Warm, never cute

The hedgehog can smile at you from an empty screen. The words next to it still say exactly what happened and what to do.

No fear, no hype

Never sell by scaring people about big tech, and never promise magic. Describe a better arrangement and let it speak.

A standard kind of data: contact, task, event. Lower case, explained on first use on any page.

One shareable piece of Cloudmorrow: screens (Web, WebApp and TUI), jobs, APIs, AI skills and data elements, in any mix. The six in the box are quills too. Never "app", "plugin" or "extension".

Open questions

Before the website ships

  1. A clean master. The logo is a JPEG on black. The website needs a transparent PNG or SVG of the hedgehog and cloud, so it can sit on Ink, on light pages and on photos without dark edges between the spines. A true pixel grid would also give a crisp sprite: the one in assets/mascot-sprite.png is resampled automatically and loses the face.
  2. The descriptor. The logo says "Extendable". "Extensible" is the usual word for software that takes add-ons, and this guide uses it. The app's own line, "own your data, choose your apps", stays as the slogan.
  3. More poses. Reading, curled up, carrying a box and asleep, drawn in the same pixel style.
